Wedding Blog Awards of the Week

Here are the wedding blog awards for the week of 3/22/09-3/28/09:

The Most Inspiring Blog of the Week:  Once Wed

This is one of those blogs that I aspire to be like! This week they posted a Modern Breathless inspiration board, a Mod Table Top, and a unique, delightful real wedding: Josh and Lou. I loved the bride’s birdcage veil, the charming wedding cake, and the groom’s boutonniere. But what sent this blog over the edge this week was the DIY project, Lacy Saucer Centerpieces. They’re great for a dinner party or wedding.

The Most Creative DIY Project of the Week: Style Me Pretty – Sugar Packets

Give your guests a sweet treat with these adorable DIY favors. A spoonful of sugar…..

The Most Useful Post/Article of the Week: Bespoke: A White Box Blog – The “plescort card”: Knowing the Difference between Place Cards and Escort Cards

This article is straightforward, easy to read and great for the bride who’s wondering if they’re using place cards or escort cards (and why it really matters).

The Most Stunning Real Wedding of the Week: Always a Bridesmaid – Max and Mara

The bride’s wedding dress designed by Diane von Furstenburg was the first thing to scream fabulous when I looked at the pictures of this wedding. I love the romantic centerpieces and the ceremony décor. Check out this beautiful event for wedding planning inspiration.

The Best Budget-Friendly Idea of the Week: How About Orange – Gift Bags Made from Envelopes

This blog isn’t a wedding planning blog; however, I get tons of ideas from it. Buying individual gift bags can really start to add up. Make your own mini gift bags for bridal shower favors, wedding favors, or dinner party favors from envelopes. This post will show you how to do it.

Tip of the Day – Spring Weddings

Skip the french pedicure, and paint your toenails a fun spring color such as robin’s egg blue or minty green.

Wedding Question Answered – Bridal Shower Outfit

Question from Sister of the Bride:   If I were the bride to be I would love to wear that outfit. My sister could easily wear it, but my upper arms are too flabby. Any suggestions for me?

April’s Answer: If you want to wear a cute spring dress and want to hide “arm flab,” wear a dress that has short sleeves. Here is a great example of an outfit with a baby blue spring dress that has long enough sleeves to cover up problem areas on your arms. The total of the outfit is an affordable $146.99 and is the perfect outfit for a guest at a bridal shower.

Five Ways to Announce Your Engagement

1.      Parents of the bride-to-be used to send out written engagement announcements. Go with the traditional route and send out paper announcements to friends and family. Just make sure that you only send announcements to people that will be invited to the wedding.

2.      Today it’s common that couples announce their engagement by calling friends and family. This gives you a chance to catch up with friends and family.

3.      With today’s technology, many couples announce their engagement through e-mail. This way you won’t have to tell the tale of how he proposed one hundred times. You can write it out and let everyone read the same story. Beware that you might receive a bunch of phone calls after you send out the e-mail! Make sure that you still call your parents and anyone that doesn’t use e-mail such as elderly guests.

4.      Start a blog. If you’re having a destination wedding or a wedding weekend, this is a great way to keep everybody informed about the big day. You can post the wedding weekend itinerary, local maps pointing out the ceremony and reception sites, and updates regarding the wedding. This would be a great place to notify the guests of the rain plan if you’re having an outdoor wedding.

5.      If you already know the exact wedding date, send out save-the-dates to announce the engagement. This is a modern way to announce your engagement.
