Many parents and grandparents may be attached the idea of having their children or grandchildren announce their engagement in the local newspaper. This can be a great keepsake and easy way to give in to something that your parents or grandparents are requesting. Give them the picture and let them do the work if they’re the ones who really want it.
Each newspaper usually has individual guidelines about the picture and the information that needs to be provided for the engagement announcement. Make sure you check the website to educate yourself on these policies. Some newspapers charge a fee to make the announcement while others run it for free. And in some large publications it can be very competitive to get your announcement in the running.
The engagement announcement should run about three to eight months before the wedding. If you’re having a small, intimate wedding you may want to skip the newspaper announcement, because you might have a lot of people dropping hints about attending the event.

Do you really think so? We live in a small town and everyone knows of the engagement. Would it be ok then to run an engagement announcement stating only the month and not the date? Just wondering.
