Super Bowl Party 2009: Who Says Girls Can’t Throw a Good Football Party?

A Super Bowl party is another excuse to eat delicious, yet fattening food, drink beer (or another alcoholic beverage of your choice), and hang out with all your friends. Why not host the Super Bowl party this year? This is a great way to show off some of your cooking skills and impress your man.

If you want to host the party but don’t have a lot of cash to spare, make it a potluck. You can provide the main course and ask guests to bring appetizers, desserts, and beverages. You can find decorations, colored plastic plates and napkins, and party favors at your local dollar store.

When your guests first walk in, provide them with trivia questions about the two competing teams. These are great conversation starters and will get your guests pumped for the game.

Set up one room in your house/apartment that your guests can go if they just want to talk for a while. Put a couple food items in there, so people who get tired of the game can take a break from it.

Need a dessert idea that can feed a lot of people? Grab break and bake sugar cookies from your local Sam’s Club or Walmart along with a tub of colored icing (preferably your team’s colors). Easy to make and decorate.

List of great football foods:

Buffalo wings

Sour cream and onion dip with chips

Nachos

Deviled eggs

Guacamole and salsa with tortilla chips

Pigs in a blanket

Burgers

Chili

Pizza

Cheese balls and crackers

If you have the above options available for your guests, they will definitely be satisfied.

Games to play:

Have a football throwing contest. Set up a game in your backyard and see who can throw a football the farthest during halftime or before the game starts. Give the winner a ten dollar gift certificate to the local sports store.

Tell each guest that they should dress up to cheer on their team. Have a contest to see who is the most creative. Get each of your guests to vote and give the winner a football, gift certificate to a restaurant or sports store, or a book about football.

Here are DIY Super Bowl party invitations that I created in about twenty minutes over the weekend. You could easily put something like this together with cardstock, stickers, and a colored marker.
