Em answered a few questions, so we could get to know her better:

When did you shoot your first wedding?

I shot my first wedding back in 2000.  Wow, where does the time go?!  For four years I assisted other photographers (commercial and wedding), and shot some smaller weddings by myself.  After a move in 2005, I started my very own business, M photography.  In 2008 I shot my 100th wedding!

How many weddings to do you shoot a year?

I shoot about 25 weddings a year.

What does a typical package include and cost?

My most popular package includes 7 hours of coverage, unlimited photographs taken, two photographers, online proof gallery for viewing, sharing, and ordering, all digital photos provided on a high resolution C.D., and $1200 album credit to use towards a custom designed album of your choice for a total package price of $3000.  Additional hours, albums, and other products can be added to any package. My basic package starts at $2000.

Can you tell me about one of your favorite wedding locations to shoot?

My home base is in Central Wisconsin and typically you will find me shooting there or in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.  I do however love the challenge of shooting in a new locations and weather conditions.  Coming up with unique and new spots to take portraits is the best part of my job and it helps keep the creative juices flowing!  Within the last two years I have been fortunate enough to shoot in many different locations around the U.S. and a handful of international locations across the world.  Some of my favorite wedding locations have been in Chicago, Oregon, Alaska, Colorado, Detroit, Hawaii, New York, Cabo Mexico, Punta Cana Dominican Republic, and London England.  This has really helped me to stay on my toes to keep creating art no matter where I am shooting or what the weather has in store for us while we are there.

Thanks to Scott and Rebecca for sharing their special day with us and to M Photography for sharing the beautiful pictures! Check out her website and blog for more wedding photos and inspiration.

Real Wedding – Chenise and EJ

I have a treat for you today – a beautiful real wedding that took place in downtown Baltimore. The color palette was kiwi green, black, white, and red. My favorite parts of this wedding: the bling on the bride’s dress, the cigar roller, the photography (especially the photograph where everything is black and white except for the red bouquets), and the dance floor. It looks like this couple went all out and had the help of experienced and dedicated wedding vendors.

Luckily, Sharon was gracious enough to answer a few questions, so we could get to know her better:

When did you shoot your first wedding?

This is my 3rd year of shootings weddings on my own. I started shooting weddings in 2004 as a second shooter.

How many weddings do you shoot a year?

 I shoot about 10-15 weddings a year.

What does a typical package include and cost?

My average price is $2500. Most of packages include two photographers, a complimentary engagement session with an online gallery, an online gallery of wedding images, 4×6 printed wedding proofs, and digital negatives of the wedding images on DVD.

Can you tell me about one of your favorite wedding locations to shoot?

I love all of my brides (and grooms but it does seem like the girls are doing more of the organizing. nothin’ wrong with that.) I get some super fun creative girls! They pick fun locations and want to have a good time! I have 2 brides this summer that are making their own dresses and I’m so excited.

I just shot a wedding that had brunch instead of dinner and that was great! The natural light at the location was beautiful the whole time.

I have been encouraging my couples to do fun engagement sessions so we get to know each other a little more and they have an idea of my shooting style. I want to feel like we’re friends, not just clients.

I want to give a big thanks to Autumn and Tyson for sharing their big day with us and to Sharon of SV Photography for sharing these beautiful pictures. Check out her website and blog to see more of her photography.

Victor was kind enough to answer a few questions, so we could get to know him better.

When did you shoot your first wedding?

I shot my first California wedding in March of 2004.

How many weddings do you shoot a year?

Typically 30-35 now. More when I first started…

Can you tell me about one of your favorite wedding locations to shoot?

 Pelican Hill, Newport Coast, CA

Everything about the resort is phenomenal; architecture, scenery, and service. They only do one wedding per day. The wedding ceremony location and ballroom are very separated from hotel traffic so it’s private and intimate. They also have one of the best vendor meals in Southern California!

I want to give huge thanks to the lovely couple for sharing their big day with us and to VCS Photography for sharing these gorgeous pictures with us. Check out his website and blog to see more of his photography.

Real Wedding – Jen and Richard

The talented photographer behind Ophelia Photography took a few minutes to answer some questions, so we could get to know her a little better:

Location: Vancouver Wedding Photographer available for travel to Vancouver Island, out of province and other international destinations

When did you shoot your first wedding?  I shot my first wedding in June of 2008.  The weather was beautiful, the sky was full of little fluffy clouds and the bride and groom were lovely.

How many weddings do you shoot a year?  Last year I photographed 10 weddings and this year it will be around 15 to 20.

What does a typical package include and cost?  My packages start at $2500 and include: Engagement session, two photographers  , High Resolution photos on a DVD, A minimum of 8 hours of coverage, A mixture of fine art, black and whites, sepia, vintage and brightly colored photographs.  Love and attention on my blog and a dedicated fun loving photographer! In addition I love to take time to get to know my clients, and together conceptualize a very unique photograph that represents their personalities.  Jen and Rich’s wedding is a great example of that as they met at the local skate park 13 years earlier.  The photograph became a collaborative effort between Jen, Rich, Brandon (the skate boarder) and myself.

Can you tell me about one of your favorite wedding locations to shoot?  My favorite locations to shoot wedding photographs are a mixture of urban and nature.   I love the look of graffiti and towering city sky lines, historical sites that nestle into towering mountain ranges, secret un-discovered abandoned properties, mountain tops, beaches, colorful walls, and amusement parks.

I want to give a huge thanks to the adorable couple for sharing their big day with us and to Ophelia Photography for the pretty pictures! Check out her blog and website to see more of her work.

Real Wedding – Adrianne and Shaler

Today’s real wedding was inspiring to me, because the bride took time to add DIY touches to her wedding. I absolutely love the DIY wedding invitation. The photography captured my eye as soon as I clicked on to Kim’s blog, and I knew that I had to share her work with you. I hope you enjoy this week’s real wedding!

Generously, Kim answered a few questions, so we could get to know her a little better. I love her positive attitude….

When did you shoot your first wedding?  I became very interested in wedding photography in 2006 when many of my friends were getting married.  At the same time, I was becoming increasingly dissatisfied with my career path, so it was the perfect opportunity to change careers.  I was fortunate enough to tag along and shoot with a very generous and fabulous photographer starting in December 2006, and I shot my first full wedding in March 2008.

How many weddings do you shoot a year?  I just relocated my business from Texas to Florida so we are in a little transition phase.  I have 7 weddings scheduled so far for 2009.

What does a typical package include and cost?  My middle package is $1800 and includes 8 hours of wedding day coverage, two photographers, online viewing for family and friends, an engagement or bridal session, 4×6 prints of every image, and a print credit.

Can you tell me about one of your favorite wedding locations to shoot?  I don’t really have a favorite yet because I have enjoyed all of the locations my couples have chosen.  As long as everyone is having a good time, then I’m happy.

I want to give a huge thanks to Adrianne and Shaler for sharing their special day with us and to Kim Chau Photography for the stunning photographs. Please share more weddings with us in the future! If you’re having your wedding in Central Florida, you should consider contacting Kim about wedding photography. See more of Kim’s great work at her blog and website.

Real Wedding – Jessica and Brent

I’m really thankful that Ben took the time to answer a few questions, so we could get to know him a little better. I love his goal as a photographer!

When did you shoot your first engagement session or wedding?

I shot my first wedding back in August of 2008

How many engagement sessions and weddings do you shoot a year?

This past year I shot almost 20 weddings and I have another 20 already booked for this upcoming year.

What does a typical package include and cost?

I offer four different packages ranging from $1,500 to $2,800. The most inexpensive package includes 5 hours of coverage and a CD of the edited and retouched images while the highe r end packages include full days of coverage, prints, hardcover books, leather albums, canvas wraps and online galleries.

Can you tell me about one of your favorite wedding locations to shoot?

My favorite location to shoot is a small little lake area called Paradise Cove. Everything is super close and intimate but still offers a good variety of settings.

What is your goal as a photographer?

Eventually I want to be a photographer who nonprofit organizations can count on to travel to where they need me in order to give their organization the images they need to bring powerful and attractive images to their branding. This is something I am always working towards because I am a strong believer in using the gifts and talents you have to help others.

I want to give a big thanks to Jessica and Brent for letting us share in their special day and to Ben Sasso Photography for the beautiful pictures. Check out his blog and website to see more of his creative photography.

Learn from Isabelle and James: Let your personal style lead the way. Wear a short, sassy dress that you can have fun in and wear shoes that stand out among your outfit. Serve martinis during dinner to add a chic feel to the reception.

Learn from Jane and Bryan: Wear a stunning Jim Hjelm gown and get married in Brooklyn in November. Get married under an arch of fall leaves and carry a bouquet of autumn colored flowers. Take wedding pictures on a rooftop and of course, hire a fantastic photographer so you can always remember your stylish wedding.

10 Questions to Ask a Photographer

Photography is one of the most important things to consider when planning your wedding. You spend hundreds of hours planning for this special occasion, and you want to have great memories to look back on. Many couples say that the day flies by, so having pictures that capture your wedding day is vital. Here is a list of ten questions to ask a photographer when you’re trying to decide whether or not he/she is the right photographer for you:

1. Who will be photographing my wedding? Do you have an assitant and can I meet that person? (Some photography companies have mulitple photographers, so you want to know which photographer will be at your wedding. Make sure you get to meet that person.)

2. Can I see a complete album from a wedding that you photographed? (This is a good way to see the photographer’s style.)

3. What is your shooting schedule during a wedding? (You want to know when the photographer will arrive and how long they spend taking formal photographs after the ceremony.)

4. Will you attend the rehearsal? (Some will attend the rehearsal to meet the major players in the wedding including the wedding planner, bridal party, and family members.)

5. Do you take more posed or candid shots? (As a couple, do you like posed shots or candid shots. This should match your photographers style.)

6. How soon will my photographs be available after I submit my order?

7. Do you bring backup equipment? (Lets be honest, things break. You don’t want to be stuck with a photographer with broken equipment.)

8. How many exposures or pictures will you take at my wedding? (Some photographers will limit the amount of photographs that they will take and some offer unlimited pictures.)

9. How do you handle camera hogs? (You don’t want your drunk friend or crazy Aunt Magda in every shot. This will also give you an idea about the photographer’s people skills.)

10. In case of an emergency, do you have a back up plan? (If your photographer gets extremely sick or has an emergency in the family, you want to make sure that you have a back up.)

I don’t think I can say enough good things about this amazing, brillant photographer. You have to visit her website and check out her wedding pictures. They will definitely inspire you. In 2008 she was named one of the top ten wedding photographers in the world by America Photo Magazine, and she’s had publications in The New York Times, New York Magazine Weddings, Martha Stewart Weddings, Modern Bride, The Knot, and Elegant Bride. Need I say more about this creative genius?
